Privacy Policy
Short version
OpenChat has no backend servers. Your conversations are stored on your device. Your API keys are stored in your device Keychain. Your messages are sent directly from your device to the AI provider you choose, under your own account. We do not collect, store, or sell your data.
Data the app stores on your device
- Conversations and settings — kept in a local database on your device.
- Provider configuration and API keys — keys are saved in the iOS Keychain.
- Optional iCloud backup — if you enable it, a copy of your conversations is stored in your own private iCloud account. It is not accessible to us.
Data sent to third parties
OpenChat is a "bring your own key" app. When you send a message, it is transmitted directly from your device to the AI provider you configured (for example OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google), using your own API key. Those requests are governed by the provider's own privacy policy. We never see, relay, or store your messages.
What we do not do
- No hosted analytics or telemetry.
- Local OSLog diagnostics contain only coarse, non-personal events and do not leave your device during normal use.
- No advertising or tracking SDKs.
- No accounts or sign-ups — we have no server to sign up to.
- No sale or sharing of personal data.
Purchases
OpenChat Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed entirely by Apple. We receive no payment details. Purchase records are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
Children
OpenChat is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Your rights
Because all app data lives on your device, you can export or permanently delete everything at any time from within the app's settings, or by deleting the app.
